Over 50 Point Park University students showed up with their game faces on to the Candyland Dodgeball Tournament, held Wednesday night in the Student and Convocation Center.

tournament.
The games were part of Welcome Week, which offers new and returning students opportunities to become involved in activities around campus. Ten teams registered and competed in the tournament, which included a sweet twist: with each win, a team was allowed to draw a certain amount of cards and move game pieces to designated spots on the game board.
The immediate goal of the competition was to reach the end of the Candyland journey before the other teams, but Adam Niehl, a sophomore cinema major, took notice of the other, more widespread goal of the event.
"It was good to get freshman out of their rooms and get them playing around with sophomores and upper classmen," Niehl said. "It's great to get people involved. "

Niehl, as well as his five teammates, made up the team ‘This one's for Wade," named in tribute for Nashville Predators player Wade Belak. The group won the tournament, defeating teams including ‘Mustache you a question' and ‘DIEversity.'
Ryan Deasy, Intramural Coordinator and current Interdisciplinary Studies student, deemed the event as a success.
"This incoming freshman class has been very active and I was hoping for a good turnout," Deasy said. "We had a great turnout. Dodgeball has always been a fan favorite, and I thought it would hit a lot of different interests."
Upcoming events in Point Park's Welcome Week include a Candyland Dance being held in the Lawrence Hall Ballroom on Thursday from 9 p.m. until midnight, and Monte Carl Night, also being held in the Lawrence Hall Ballroom on Friday from 7 p.m. until midnight. All students are encouraged to participate in the week's events.
